vickymadness | I have a packed 12H: chart ruler, co-ruler, Neptune and NN ... Would giving up my spirituality and my connection to the higher power (god) represent a risk? Would I lose my identity? |
anonymidarkness | If you value your spirituality, then yes, you would lose your identity, since it would be like losing a part of yourself. Maybe you'll find something else, worth the risk IMO. |
aquaguy91 | I think one of the core lessons of the 12th house is learning to let go and trust that life will unfold as it should. You also have to acknowledge that you dont really have any control of life/ the world and just go with the flow. If you can get into that mindset without believing in God then by all means... But IMO its more then a little foolish not to believe in a God of some sort. |
vickymadness | why you think so? I used to strongly believe in god, but then since t-pluto started to conjunct my chart ruler I began questioning my faith... For me going with the flow is a very very difficult thing to do; MC ruler conjunct MC is very potent and it makes me obsessive about my life path. |
seekinglight | 12th house isn't only about spirituality, it is also about the arts (painting/dancing/photography/singing, etc), the government, hospice, or being a hermit. Van Gogh had always wanted badly to become a minister, but on his saturn return, he opened up a new world in painting. His NN is in 12th. |
depth | I've my chart ruler and Neptune in the 12th and the 12H ruler in the 1st and I was an atheist for four years. Now, I'm a non-religious theist. Spirituality and god are two different things so becoming an atheist won't make you less spiritual. It was important for me to become an atheist in order to become a stronger believer. Atheism was a spiritual journey on its own. I didn't want to believe in a god just because I was taught to. I wanted to 'experience' things for myself and then decide. Even at this point I'm learning and currently experimenting with a few theories. God should be a journey, not a destination. |
manderin | As some have mentioned 12th house is not only spirituality, however it is the most positive element of the 12th house. First thing- Athiesm is not your identity... Neither is your name or your body... Your true identity is much deeper than all these things. When you realize this, you'll see that giving up Athiesm or taking it up will not affect your true essence in the least. Second thing- Faith and Religion are two very different things that are often confused for one another. Religion isn't that important, but Faith is. You can be an Athiest and have plenty of faith. In fact, technically most buddhists are Athiests, because Buddhism states that there is no diety at all. Only a universal energy. Religion CAN be a means to help one's faith, but it can also just as easily be means to the opposite of faith and close-mindedness. Either way it's just a means, it's not the thing itself. If you feel studying a religion will help you tune into your Faith go ahead. Religion can help some people do that but it's not absolutely necessary. |
Faith | To me, God is just a word. It doesn't really matter if you believe in God or not. Spirituality is what's important. 12H Saturn in mutual reception with my Cap sun.

Thank you. |
Kerosene | Girl it's liberating knowing the only thing you have to answer to is yourself. If anything you gain more of an identity. As for a higher power maybe but I don't believe this power does anything for us on a personal level. So I see no point of worshipping something that probably is not even paying attention to every single sentient life form in the entire universe including other universes. If anything building yourself and having faith in yourself is how you will be more fulfilled individual |

I have Sun conjunct Uranus in my 12th house, and I agree with the above wholeheartedly. I consider myself an atheist, as in, I don't believe in 'God' and have no affiliation with any religions or religious groups. 12th house is spirituality, which can, but does not necessarily refer to religion. I have faith in the universe, in astrology, and in myself! |

With the twelfth house, what really gets you is worrying about stuff. It's the house of faith. You have to let go just like Aqua said, and trust in your life. Trust that it will be a new, exciting adventure to be discovered everyday. Sixth house is the "worry" while twelfth is the one of trust. If you really have faith and trust you do not question. You never worry or fret. That's why this house has absolutely NO connection with worry even though time and time again people think of it as a place someone goes to undo themselves through the act of worrying. It's not so. It's the house of faith and providence. ALWAYS. Put the worry in the sixth where it belongs. Your spirit will feel liberated. This is what the twelfth is all about. Liberation.

Gabby | Giving up a "traditional" view on God is not necessarily giving up your spirituality. You might just find your true spirituality by dropping the concept of God through societies eyes and finding your own concept that fits better with who you are.I've went through huge evolutions of faith and my belief on who or what God is, at one point I felt God was nothing more than the energy of love that we all share....since God is Love! I feel different now but explore what you think God is...and enjoy the journey! When I did that, I didn't lose myself, I found myself! 12th house unaspected virgo Moon |
Dancing Maenad | I was very religious when I was little so I know how hard it is to give up "God". Now I am an anti-theist agnostic and very happy with it! ------------------ ~the raving one dancing in the nude~ |
vickymadness | thanks everyone, I appreciate each reply. |
fireopal09 | I was raised agnostic, was a practicing witch in my adolescence and had a brief fling with Christianity in my late 20's until my logical self (Sun conjunct Uranus) rebelled. I did not realize I was really an atheist until it was pointed out to me that my reasoning (the high probability that there isn't a god or gods)is basically atheistic. I don't much care for ANY religion because human rights have been abused in the name of religion. I highly recommend you read Christopher Hitchens's "god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything". ------------------ Claire "When going gets weird, the weird turn pro." -HST |
Kerosene | ^ that's interesting.I was raised agnostic and I use to pray to god every night because I was afraid that something bad would happen to my family. However I use to believe in santa claus and the tooth fairy too.. But I when I got older I stopped believing in all those things lol. |

You have to learn to let it go. |

Comatoes | I don't think a person with a strong 12th house should give up their spirituality, I think its a bad idea if you do. Remember spirituality is not religion, it can be many things but the 12th house is a house of compassion and concern for yourself and others, a 12th house person should never give these up as this is one of the main reasons why you have a 12th house influence to explore and grow beyond your present life. The 12th house can be difficult, but this is one area that shines brighter than any other house, the chance to improve your soul for whatever comes next, not many people have that chance. |
